And I thought real soul and funk would never been shown on TV anymore but when I saw this live gig with Prince, Beyonce and my personoal hero Maceo Parker on saxophon and I was proven wrong.

Wow! I'd forgotton just how great the Purple One was... fantastic.:D He's underrated as a guitarist. Was that definitely Maceo? - should have made more of him. I saw Fred Wesley and the JBs about 20 years ago and they blew me away. Funky as hell!

Yeas its Maceo with Candy Dulfer and Fred Boyer (ex-Parliament-member and now in Maceo's band).
I've seen Fred Wesley with Pee Wee Ellis about 4 years ago. Well and Maceo plays every year in Hamburg or Berlin, so I don't know how often I've seen him. He's the greatest. The first time I saw him he said that yesterday he had become 60 than he played, sang and danced for about 3 hours plus 1 1/2 encore. I was killed and couldn't move anymore, just too much dancing and he said that now he is going to a forfree jamsession in an other club. I hope I'll be that fit when I'm 60.

By the way. Here are some great concertclips by Maceo. The first one is with Fred Wesley and the second one is with his new lineup. They really rock but a movieclp can't give you the real maceo-feeling when you actuely see him life.

That's one hell of a band!
I've lost count of how much Pee-Wee, Fred and Maceo stuff I have. Also been listening to a lot of Candy Dulfer. I uploaded a video there a few days ago you might like:
Has anyone got the DVD "My First Name is Maceo"? I bought it, and it's great! Fred Wesley does "House Party", and the special guest band is the Rebirth Brass Band.
I have some good CDs of theirs too:
The JB's Reunion - Bring the Funk on Down
Pee-Wee, Fred and Maceo - The JB Horns
Fred Wesley - Wuda Cuda Shuda
I always love good funk
