ever wonder how the hell they filmed that shot???
as i was just looking at the pic with the bridge up and wondering they probubly had to drive the car all the way up to the edge of the bridge while in its upright position, stop the car when they reached the edge and roll back down in reverse.
Am I wrong? Because we do see the car flying up the bridge pretty fast. How'd they do it?
I forgot where I saw or read it but as far as I know they really jumped the bridge. As always for movie purposes a scene is broken down into several shots. They probably had to stop the Bridge at various angles for hours to get their shots. You can notice the various angles if you look closely at the final shots used in the scene.
I think it was said on one of the DVD special features that they istalled special roll-on and roll-off ramps for a wider angle so the car could accelerate before entering the already opened bridge. Without these ramps it would have been similar to driving into a wall / the floor at the other side.
They also had to do the jump more than one time as far as I heard.
If I only remebered where I saw that... Gotta go through the special features again.
If you look at the car in the final scene after Elwood accelerates you can see the driver slammed onto the brakes just soon enough so he wouldnt crash into the wall in front of him. This is noticeable only for a few frames before the next cut.
Then they must have had the car climbing the bridge at a much more grip-friendly angle.
For the jump itself they needed speed thus the ramps (not visible of course).
