@Syd-Blues:
I have to agree to 440Rulez. You prove yourself blissfully ignorant of what you're talking about, and yet you continue to talk exact in the same way to prove your ignorance furthermore.

I'm sorry, but how can I "respect your opinion", when it is clearly visible, that this opinion is based on complete lack of knowledge on the subject?

Quote

[...] I simply don't care about recording techniques. [...]
And this is exactly the point! You don't care! But you still talk about it! So if you simply don't care, just simply stop talking about things you don't understand! That's MY opinion!

Basetapes has given the real proof, that he indeed has access to the original multitrack tapes by giving us all this rough mix. 440Rulez and myself have given you a complete overview and explanations, why this just has to be true. We are both Audio Engineers and know what we're talking about. So could you please stop denying a provable fact?

I myself don't have a clue on american football. Am I trying to tell anybody who'll be top of the league?

Jesus, where are my headache pills?

Hi,

I wanted to jump in on the board here and mention that there is currently a 2 disc deluxe reissue in the works!

I'm one of the producers for this project and for me it is a labor of love. I have spent the last year going through all of the 2 track and mullti track recordings associated with the soundtrack and film. A real dream come true!

Disc 1 will comprise the original soundtrack remastered

Disc 2 will send most fans into fits

I can't give the details currently because final track list hasn't been aproved from a legal standpoint, but if it's in the film, it most likely will be on the bonus disc, even songs that didn't make the film!

This will likely not be released till late 2006, possibly early 2007.

I welcome any comments, sugestions, etc.

Thanks and I will keep the board posted on the progress, who knows I may start a blog to cover the process... hmmmm not a bad idea...I'll look into it.

All the best,

Basetapes

Heyyyy COOOL! I may be a few years too late, but please please will you let me know what happened??
Cheers.

Welcome to the board cabrera,

I think you shouldn't get your hopes up too high...
If you read the whole thread you'll see this probably won't happen anytime soon...

At least the original (multitrack-)tapes have been baked and digitized properly so the recordings have been saved for now from getting lost or chemical deterioration of the tape itself...

Guess we have to wait for the next big anniversary...
Maybe talk to Bob or the union...
Write some checks on glove compartments...
Run over some nazis...
2k Voodoo spells...

...stuff like that

This would be my ultimate soundtrack. I've been waiting for something like this for years! Hope all goes well with everything Basetapes, I would give anything to be in your shoes. Anything to be able to listen to Minnie the Moocher with all the instruments split up.

2010 is coming up...maybe we will see a 30th anniversary edition?

With CDs falling out of popularity in recent years in favor of mp3 music, it may be easier to just release the deluxe edition on iTunes. If you can get the rights, why not?

I think this new version of the BB soundtrack is gonna be freakin' golden!

Oh, in case no one posted this yet, I found the Sam & Dave tracks on The Best of Sam & Dave, just like the 8-Track in the movie! I have it on an early CD issue of the album, and believe it or not, the two tracks "Soothe Me" and "Hold On I'm Comin'" are in that order on the album, just like the movie.
It may be on Ebay, maybe. I found my copy at a resale shop.

its like here Vici ^^ ... but the diffrence is, that i got 21 CD's or so(including the bootlegs) and i had to order most of the cd's over Amazon.de: Günstige Preise bei Elektronik & Foto, DVD, Musik, Bücher, Games, Spielzeug & mehr ...
so if you want a new CD of the Blues Brothers, then order it over the internet, its the easiest way :BB:

Hello All!

Wow, guy steps out the door for a year or so and the haters come knocking ;)

To all those who question my intent or veracity you are wrong.

ANYWAY what I did come on here to say is that the project is still sitting on the shelf, I still have the files and even better... go to my fan page on Facebook and listen to several other bonus tracks!

  • Can't Turn You Loose - Blues Brothers Band (previously released here)

  • Old Landmark - James Brown - The COMPLETE sermon and take 1 of the song recorded live to 24 track (a personal favorite)

  • Boom Boom - John Lee Hooker - live to 24 track on location along with sweetened harmonica track from the studio (this recording of this song is the genesis for my interest in the project)

  • Minnie The Moocher (Studio Version) - Cab Calloway - dry version recorded in the studio and was played back during filming for the band to lip sync to. The audience response and hall sound was added to the soundtrack release to give it the same feel as in the film.

and more to come...

  • Quando Quando - Murph and The Magictones
  • Just The Way You Are - Murph and The Magictones (with vocal!)
  • Stand By Your Man - The Blues Brothers
  • Sink The Bismark - The Blues Brothers
Head over to the facebook fan page for Basement Tapes

and listen to all these BB tracks along with other projects I have been working on. See for yourself that I'm an honest to goodness flesh and blood audio engineer!

Randy,

thank you very much for posting these and notifying my via PM.
In reality, no need to proof anything here.

I just crawled out of bed, still dead tired from doing a parade with my Dodge Monaco, we had LOUDspeakers to promote the Blues Brothers Musical (guys from London) coming here to Munich in March and all the night before I prepared the music, even doing my own mixes from "tailfeather" and "think" and "everybody" for example using the tracks from the DVD.

I used C, L, R, LFE and the rear channels and used them as my "multitrack" source for the mix, then mastered the result. Worked out cool. It can run next to the soundtrack album tracks without any drop in "quality". The movie songs are more rough than the album to begin with but that's exactly what I wanted to capture. I will send you a link so you can listen. I wanted to do that anyway. No idea if it would be ok to post them to the public.

For the parade I added Elwood's announcements from the movie, the ones he does over the huge roof loudspeaker. Of course in the movie he does this to the song "I'm walking" so I spent a good deal of time eliminating the music to just keep the announcements.

Man I can tell you, I'd love to be in your shoes. I want those raw files on my hard disc.
I want to mix / master them. I'm dead serious.

Again, thanks for coming back here with the update.

-Robert

Can you tell me what version that is?
(Release date?)

While researching for the S&D replica 8-track, I found three versions of the album had been released, prior to 1979. (The original LP and 2 different 8-tracks)

I also found six different versions released after '79 (starting in 1987), including one Austrailian release.
(These were all CD's)

Although many of them have the songs listed in different orders, none have
"Soothe Me" and "Hold On"... back to back.

*edit:
Just curious because, with the above info, the songs are also not back to back on my tape.
It would be interesting to see a version that has them listed in that order.
(Even if it is after 1979).
