Hi,

I wanted to jump in on the board here and mention that there is currently a 2 disc deluxe reissue in the works!

I'm one of the producers for this project and for me it is a labor of love. I have spent the last year going through all of the 2 track and mullti track recordings associated with the soundtrack and film. A real dream come true!

Disc 1 will comprise the original soundtrack remastered

Disc 2 will send most fans into fits

I can't give the details currently because final track list hasn't been aproved from a legal standpoint, but if it's in the film, it most likely will be on the bonus disc, even songs that didn't make the film!

This will likely not be released till late 2006, possibly early 2007.

I welcome any comments, sugestions, etc.

Thanks and I will keep the board posted on the progress, who knows I may start a blog to cover the process... hmmmm not a bad idea...I'll look into it.

All the best,

Basetapes

GREAT *%$# NEWS!! Please, oh please tell me that you guys are planning on putting the "God music" by Elmer Bernstein and the classical piece that is played during the Chez Paul scene.

Why stop at two discs? :D :) I can't wait!!!

hehe ... we shall see

We actually were talking about that just the other day, that it might spill over to 3 discs. But we are holding it to 2 discs. That being said, a bonus bonus disc could happen through our web based collectors lable... we shall see.

How about some outtakes and alternate takes? The basslines were slightly different in the movie than in the soundtrack album, and they sound smoking. 'Stand by your man' has a piano intro in the 25 anniversary DVD, and a guitar intro in the theatrical version. 'Jailhouse rock' also has other cast members singing. 'Everybody needs somebody to love' over the credits is slightly different too.

Also, it would be great to hear any tracks that John Lee Hooker may have recorded.

What's your label web address?

Just throwing out sugestions,

Richard

All are good suggestions, and all of these tracks are represented in our current tracklist for the 2nd disc. John Lee Hooker only had one recorded track for the film, the other track used in the soundtrack is a previous recording, we hope we can include both.

This release will be done by one of the big 5 lables.

Hi 'basetapes'!

This is FANTASTIC news!

We all really appreciate you keeping us fans in the loop with this.

I agree a blog would be great to cover this, so we can all stay up to date.

When this is released, you can be sure Blues Brothers Central will promote it in every possible way

We currently have several threads on this site by 'soundtrack completionists', ie fans who are trying to put together their own soundtracks containing every tune heard in the movie. Is there a chance this will fill in all the blanks for us?

If you would like to run a blog, I can easily set one up for you here? Can have it up and running in 10 minutes

I'm sure every member of this site is insanely jealous that you were able to go through the original recordings :P

Me too. In fact, I'll buy some extras to give as gifts.

I for one am insanely jealous! I would sit there for hours listening to each individual track minus the vocals to hear every detail of the bands playing. it boggles the mind. I need to lay down.

With lack of emoticons, I must say I am tremendously overwhelmed by the need to fork out my money already. A complete collection as a soundtrack re-issue has been a long time coming.
Envy does make its presence known considering the priviledged few that will actually parttake in the compilation and rummaging of the original recordings. In any case, what great news...
Ah, the lucky few...

Basetapes, a few questions for you:

1. You said that Disc 1 will be the original soundtrack remastered. Do you mean the original soundtrack that was released commercially, or a more complete soundtrack? The original soundtrack doesn't fill up the entire CD, and a fully complete soundtrack is too large to fit on a CD.

2. How did these recordings come into your possession? Are you connected somehow with Universal? Did you find them on eBay?

3. Although you can't yet say what the contents of each disc will be exactly, could you perhaps tell us what recordings you have?

4. Do you have a recording of the music playing in the background when Jake is released from prison? Do you know what the title of it is? Do you know who the artist is?

5. Do you have a recording of the Chez Paul music? Do you know what the proper title for it is? Do you know who the artist is?

6. Do you have the recording of Girl From Ipanema used in the movie? Do you know who the artist is?

Sorry if this seems like an interrogation; it's not.

The first question is dual-purpose: a request for clarification and also something to think about if he hasn't already that I learned in my own soundtrack completion experiences.

The second question stems from my own personal curiosity, and the answer could indicate that there is more out there to be obtained.

The third question is a request for transparency. It's harder for the members of this forum to make suggestions when we don't know what is available. It's all fine and dandy to say, "I think this should be included," but if he doesn't even have a recording of it...

The last three questions are cries for help in improving the Music in the Movie listing.

If I understand this correctly, this 2-cd set will be like the David Bowie album 2-cd re-release of "Hours..." in that the first cd is just a reissue and the second cd represents all the bonus materials.

Personally however, I don't need a two cd set with one cd being a virtual duplicate of the soundtrack cd I already have (with a big ol' label on the front screaming "newly digitally remastered from the original master tapes"). I'm more interested in the "I Can't Turn You Loose" instrumental....everything else I've got. Release that as a single and I'll be happy!

Regards,

Yickle.
