as you probably know, the sound quality on "live on new year`s eve" is very poor. my question is, if "groove me", the bootleg which contains the same concert, has got better sound quality?

I know that 'Groove Me' has the same sound as the video of the Winterland concert. The distortion, the feedback, the same on both. Just the CD doesn't have 'Messin' with the Kid'. You can see a few of the songs on 'The Story of the Blues Brothers', like 'Flip, Flop and Fly', an edited 'Jailhouse Rock', and others. As far as I know, 'Groove Me' and 'Live on New Year's Eve' are the same concert..... just released in different places. I know that one of these were released in Australia (Live on New Year's Eve) and the other I saw on eBay from Argentina (Groove Me). I also saw a 'Groove Me' from Mexico with the picture that's on the cover of the Mitch Glazer book.

I think this is the setlist for this concert:
blues brothers - winterland ballroom san francisco 31/12/78
intro, hey bartender, almost, rubber biscuit, shotgun blues, groove me, i don't know, soul man, b-movie boxcar blues, flip flop fly, jailhouse rock, outro

recorded live at the closing night of the winterland ballroom, san francisco on new year's eve

when i did a little "research" on ebay i also found many "groove me"s. there are two different ones from italy. i own one of them, this one also has the novel picture on the cover. (unfortunately the tracks are in the wrong order and the terrific intro+speech is missing) the other one from italy has jake on the cover but it looks painted (may also be a actual photo gone through "paint"). i also found the australian one on ebay but cannot remember the cover.
but i think the best publicatiion of this concert is "bdr 529". i think it`s from an amarican label, it has the famous photo of jake and elwood that also was on an issue of the "rolling stone" (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=280&item=6901190954&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW). it feels like the audio has been mastered a little bit, but it may be just my imagination, lol. it has no no sign like "add" or "aaa" for the sampling like usual. i found this one in a second hand music store.

it's sad that the "jailhouse rock" version on "the best of the blues brothers" is missing this middle part. it develops a great energy in the song and i like listen on it on the cds.
@human biped: where did you get the video of this concert?

I have the 'Groove Me' with the Jake painted on the cover. Well, interesting story how I got the video. I went online and did a search for it, Google I'm pretty sure is where I did it, and I found a few people with it, and I sent them an e-mail asking for a copy. After sending almost 20 e-mails, I came across a guy with it, and he made me a copy!
I have seen the cover for "BDR-529" on Tony's Blues Brothers page, and it looks the best to me :)
And about the setlist... they did "Messin' with the Kid" at Winterland, but it's not on any CD. You can see it in "The Best of the Blues Brothers" as I said above, but they didn't include it in the CD, strange. It's also in my video of the concert.
