I think there is too much focus on doing yet an other copy on the first movie. Getting the band back together finding gigs and getting in trouble with the law. It is worn theme. Of course some of the classic ingredients must be found in a third Blues Brothers-movie. But I think it have to have a new angle. For example on the themes "the new blues", "the return of the blues" or "the new generation". The blues won’t die, it just have to find its way to the next generation, as Eddie Floyd kept saying at the Blues Brothers Band concert at the Stockholm Jazz Festival 2003: "the new generation" and meant all the young people in the audience. Here is my idea of a beginning of a third Blues Brothers-movie:

Everything was cleared up between the penguin and Elwood, the charges were dropped. Now Elwood lives in a small house long outside Chicago. One day a dark blue 1956 Chevrolet pulls up on the driveway. Out climbs Buster in his black suit. In the yard he sees a 1974 Dodge Monaco (or a black 1960 Caddy, the first Bluesmobile), partially covered in leaves and dirt. Buster is about to knock on the door when a voice from inside the house calls "Who is it?". Buster answers "Buster Blues". The door opens and in the dusk a man sits in a rocking chair wearing sunglasses, a black suit, black tie and a black hat. It's Elwood. Buster has during all these years studied to car designer, but have always had a nagging feeling that his call was something else and have recently had a revelation and are now seeking Elwood's help in starting a blues band and learning same new moves and songs.

The focus of the movie is how the blues survives in the next generation and it got to have a completely unique title, not just "Blues Brothers 3", but something in style with "The return of the blues". Buster’s catchphrase could be "And remember people, in blues we trust!". Of course it got to have the same spirit as mainly the first BB-movie.

I was thinking something similar. Buster or some kid who loved the BB as a kid (kinda like John Popper in BB2000), tracks down Elwood (which could be a story in itself) and mentions starting a new band up. It could be with up and coming or even possible already famous blues people, ex John Popper and Johnny Lang. This way there's a new BB band. Granted, it would be as good as the original, but it'll keep the blues alive.

*starts humming the overture from a particular Universal Pictures sci-fi/comedy/western (the latter only in the third one) trilogy*

That would be pretty good. I would love to see The New Blues Brothers and either the original band or The Scared Hearts in action in a third film. But Dan "Elwood Blues" Aykroyd is 53, Jim "Zee Blues" Belushi is 51, and John "Mighty Mack Blues" Goodman is also 53 and they aren't getting younger. So a next gen flick could be a good idea. Or a concert mockumentary.

I had thought about that years ago, but wasn't sure how good it'd work.

that would mean more of buster , seeing how he was the only kid there , unless some of the other band members have kids ( for movie pourpos only , not real life ones ) and seeing how matt was the only one married and as far as we know of him and the mrs. didnt have kids .
" Just trying to make everyone feel welcome " !

"Oh life is like a maze of doors and they all open from the side you're on
Just keep on pushing hard boy, try as you may
You're going to wind up where you started from "
