I've got a nice CD compilation of instrumental soul music from Rhino in my collection. It's called Rock Instrumental Classics Volume 4: Soul (#71604). Among the Blues Brothers-related tunes, it contains "Time is Tight". But there's an error in the accompanying essay by A. Scott Galloway:

"'Green Onions' has been used in many movies to provide a smoky ambiance of early-'60s cool; it was the cue for Sting's motorcycle-boy character in The Who's Quadrophenia and later appeared in The Blues Brothers..."

I'm not sure, but I think the author of the essay confused "Green Onions" with John Lee Hooker's "Boogie Chillun." I actually tried to contact Rhino quite some time ago to make them aware of the error.

Also, the compilation came out prior to the sequel, Blues Brothers 2000, so no chance the author confused the two movies. He was definitely talking about The Blues Brothers (1980).

You are correct sir. That song never appear in the original Blues Brothers movie. The only thing that connects this song to the movie in any way is the fact that Steve 'The Colonel' Cropper is the original composer.

Yeah, but this particular Rhino compilation is from 1994 (see below):

Like I said in the original post, there was no way in 1994 that the author of the essay in the accompanying CD booklet could have confused music from The Blues Brothers (1980) with music from a movie that wouldn't be made for another four years (Blues Brothers 2000).

Or perhaps the author is getting confused with the "Made In America" Blues Bros album?

Remember, you can go into music stores and find "Briefcase Full of Blues" plus the aforementioned "Made In America" in the soundtracks section. Put simply...ignorance is bliss.

"Time Is Tight" does share the main riff with Otis Redding's "I Can't Turn You Loose," which is performed instrumentally as the Blues Brothers' opening music. Both original recordings were played on by Duck and Steve.
