Check your web browser has cookies enabled, if there disabled the computer cant store your login cookie that does all the work :)

I can't remember how that goes on Internet Exploroer but on Mozzila Firefox you goto

"Tools"
"Options"
"Privacy"
Hit the little + next to "Cookies"
Tick "Allow sites to set cookies" and "for the originating website only" (Last one cuts down on Ad cookies)

I hope that helps :)

Thanks King Bee for answering the question for me :)

Yes, cookies are the reason why you can't save your login.

If you change your browser settings hopefully it will fix the problem.

On another similar note - of logging out - I am having a LOT of problems lately with the board automatically logging me out.

Often, when I write a long post, by the time I press "Submit Reply" it will just give me a log in page. I have lost a WHOLE BUNCH of neat stuff that way. Worse, I lose a LOT of time.

Options for Me:

1) I could start composing in Word and cutting and pasting, but if I have to open up a new program, there's the change I may just walk away.

or

2) I could post shorter posts. But really, folks, how realistic is that?

Any thoughts on how to solve this?

Jo, I understand your predicament, it happens to me sometimes, and not only here but on emailing and stuff. Technology doesn't like me. Especially with a temperamental internet access like now.

All I do to avoid the problem is copy the text I just wrote before hitting the button to post the thing. Just in case if disappears, I just have to paste it in another message and post it back again. At least you save time and stuff - above interesting stuff.

Things like that get me real mad otherwise, believe me.

It's happened to me as well. Just log back in at the prompt and it should take you right back to where you were. If not, click 'view' then 'go to' and go back one or two entries.

Failing that, the best way to avoid the post eating gremlins is to just preview your post every other paragraph. That will keep it alive.

I have problems typing long posts myself. I type my big long post, click the button, and when I get back to the home page to continue reading the new posts, everything has been marked as read. Grr!

That's why I copy the whole thing just in case something goes haywire. In that case, I can just paste it back in a new post.

But sometimes, I forgot to do so... argh !

For some reason my computer wasn't accepting my login and password. I had to reset it.

Just something Jo, the password/auto-login may be changed or reset if you ever do a windows update or of course if you remove the temp files in a system clean-up.

I had this one time took me ages to figure it out, then i found out through a mate. if you have the "remember passwords" feature enabled on your PC, then your PC does a security update, sometimes this changes the encription method so your old passwords stop working, so basically all your stored passwords are still stored, but just as gibberish.. in laymans terms, it's a bit like going out the house one day, then coming home to find all the locks have been changed.. good old Microsoft!

Can someone tell me how this &#§@$ thing works ? I mean, every now and then you have to log in... Argh ! Because of that feature, I did twice the best score at Mahjong, just to see it not being recorded because logging has ended - while I had logged before ! Gets on my nerves...

I also outdone my best score at Tetris and zing ! Not recorded because logging has expired !!! *sigh*

Can we remove that logging delay feature or whatever when we are in the Arcade ? PLEASE ?!

If nothing can be done, maybe someone out there can tell me for how long are we logged in before being logged out (that sentence sounds silly but that's the best thing I've come up with to explain my predicament.)

I've been fortunate that that hasn't happened to me yet.
(My computer never logs me off if it thinks I'm being idle too long.)
If I write something that's lengthy, I 'copy' it so it's saved in temporary memory in case anything happens. If it's really intricate I write it in 'WORD'.

On occasion, when I proof read a post, I've made the mistake of trying to correct it on the preview screen. What usually happens is that it does indeed go 'POOF!' I found that if I just use my 'Forward' click on the mouse, it takes me back to the preview screen so that it's not really lost! Phew! :o

I don't have the feeling it's the computer that logs me off. I'm under the impression that it's the site itself ! It did not happen some weeks ago... and now... POOF ! logged off...

From the forum settings:
Session Timeout: 900
This is the time in seconds that a user must remain inactive before their login session expires.

So basically it's 15 minutes for a session, however if you have "Remember Login" enabled then the cookie should last a lot longer.

I don't have enough information to know what the problem might be.

What version of Windows are you using?
What web browser? (IE6, IE7, Firefox etc?)

What is weird is that even when you're playing in the arcade, which I do not call being inactive, you are logged off. For me, being inactive means not interacting with the site at all, like for example I am on the site and suddenly someone calls me at my door and I remain away from my computer.

Thing is, it began to do that logging off stuff a few weeks ago. Before it did not do it so often. I even tried selecting "remember logging" as I am on the website from home, so there is nothing risky, but all the same, it changed nothing.

I use Windows XP and most likely IE6.

Thank you Chris for your help ! :)
