Did Dan have a harp teacher, when he first started out, or did he self teach himself?

Sorry it it's been asked before.

I'd say Curtis taught him, as Elwood does say "Curtis, you and the penguin are the the only family we got. And you're the only one that was ever good to us. Singing Elmore James tunes and blowing the harp for us down here."

It would seem the most correct answer I could think would be true.

As for Dan learning errr well don't know, I know he knew the harp before doing the Blues Brothers but apart from that don't know.

So people one of you must know :)

Well, Danny has always said he played half-decent harp. I've always just assumed he was self-taught.

I wish things were the way they were in the early 1900's when you could hop on the bus with a band and their harp player would teach you (like James Cotton did with Sonny Boy Williamson).

I know of somebody who teaches the harp but he wants £20 per hour ,which i thought was a bit steep,so i'm self teaching myself the basics
from a book and the internet and i'm pretty good but then again i would say that!!!!! :)

OK, I think I have the answer to your question.....

On an interview with Regis and Kelly when he was plugging his "Have Love, Will Travel" CD and tour, he mentioned that he had some sorta job (it may have been park ranger, I don't remember for sure, but I'll watch the interview again to be sure) and he said there were lots of grizzly bears around, and he tought himself harmonica while up there in the woods. So he learned to play on his own. As did I, and I think most people do.

I think he was a road surveyor in the Northwest Territories (as said in http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Lot/2976/brothers1.html ).

Also, I read somewhere that he started playing around 17-19. Very possible that he was self-taught, I guess.
