Okay, it's a musical. It's by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, of South Park fame. They made this movie with their friends and family, during their holidays at uni. And, it's about a real life person from the 19th century, called Alferd Packer (yes, Alferd spelt like that.) In real life, he took a group of men over the rocky mountains (or attempted to) and the others didn't make it, and he was accused of cannibalism. This tells the "True Story" of it, and it's surprisingly well based on what the real Alferd said happened!
It's filled with insane songs, some gore, really funny lines... I think it's genius. Dodgy as anything, but genius! It's a cult thing really.
songs like "Let's build a snowman"
which goes

Sometimes.. the world is black. And tears run from your eyes
And maybe we'll all get really sick. And maybe we'll all die... sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Lets build a snowman!
We can make him our best friend!
We can name him tom or we can name him george
we can make him tall or we can make him notsotall
SNOWMAN!
He'll have a happy face, a happy smile, a happy point of view. if you build me a snowman then i'll build one for you!

etc

or...

The sky is blue and all the leaves are green
The sun's as warm as a baked potato
I think i know exactly what i mean
When I say it's a shpadoinkle day
And as i ride with my girl
she's my best friend in the whole world
we move along, set our goals high
with eyes full of hope as we aim for the
sky is blue, and all the leaves are green
my heart's as full as a baked potato!
I think you know precisely what i mean
when i say it's a shpadoinkle day!
When I say it's a happy gormogordy lucky shpadoinkley dayyyyyyyy!

It's totally insane. But absolutely brilliant.
lines like

Look out for that bear trap
what bear trap? *snap* ARGH!!!!

or
characters: Excuse me! how far is it to provo?
weird man: You'll never come back again. It's got a curse on it.
characters: provo?
weird man: the rocky mountains, i gotta warn you. you're doomed. doomed. dooomed doooooooooooooomeed...
characters: ... thankyou!

no, it's not based on the Donner Party. This was another cannibalism occurence.
I won't tell you how the true story went, or it'll ruin the ending of Cannibal! The Musical.

Random things: in the middle of a big song and dance, someone yells ' COWBELL SOLO!!' and proceeds to hit a cowbell (one note) for 15 seconds.
Very enthusiastically.

there are three 'alien' sightings in the movie.
