WELL , YES IT WAS SOMETHING I WAITED 22 YEARS FOR, AND IT WAS GREAT BUT IT WAS ALSO A NIGHTMARE. HERES WHY.

THE SHOW WAS A 18 AND OVER SHOW, MY GIRLFRIEND HAD TRULY, RECENTLY LOST HER I.D.
SHE IS 22 YEARS OLD BUT THE SECURITY GAURDS WOULD NOT LISTEN TO US AND TOLD HER SHE COULDNT GO IN. IF THIS WAS ANY OTHER CONCERT I WOULD OF LEFT BUT CONSIDERING THE 22 YEARS IT TOOK FOR ME TO SEE THEM, I HAD TO GO IN WITHOUT HER . SO THAT SUCKED. AND ON TOP OF IT THE HOUSE OF BLUES SECURITY REALLY NEEDS TO TAKE A CHILL PILL. NOT ONLY DID THEY HARRASS ME AND MY GIRL ABOUT THE ID BUT THEY FOUGHT WITH SOME PEOPLE . INNOCENT PEOPLE GOT HURT FOR NO REASON. THERE WERE SO MANY PEOPLE THERE THE LINE EXCEEDED ALL THE WAY DOWN THE BRIDGE OVER THE CHICAGO RIVER.
SO WHEN I FINALLY GOT IN, AND PUSHED THREW A THOUSAND PEOPLE, DRESSED IN THE FULL BLUES BROTHERS COSTUME, I RAN INTO TOM DAVIS(FROM BEST OF THE BLUES BROTHERS)
HE IS REALLY HARD TO NOTICE BECAUSE HE GREW A HUGE BEARD. SO HE STOOD BY THE BAR THE WHOLE TIME DURRING THE SHOW AND NOONE NOTICED HIM BUT ME! I HAD A CHANCE TO DISCUSS SOME THINGS ABOUT JOHN AND DAN. I ASKED HIM WHERE THE ORIGANAL BAND IS AND WHY THEY WERE NOT HERE TONIGHT . HE SAID THEY ARE ALL TOO EXPENSIVE TO GET.

I WAS BACK AND FORTH TO THE FRONT OF THE STAGE AND BACK TO THE BAR WITH TOM. I GOT GREAT VIEWS OF THEM I WASENT ALLOWED TO BRING IN MY CAMERA OR WE ALL WOULD OF BEEN HAVING A BLAST RIGHT NOW. IF IT WASENT FOR THE HOUSE OF BLUES SECURITY, IT WOULD OF BEEN ALOT BETTER. I MEAN IT WAS LIKE THAT OLD STONES CONCERT WHEN THE HELLS ANGELS WERE INCHARGE OF SECURITY. REMEMBER THAT??
EVERYONE WAS GETTING PUSHED. EVEN TOM DAVIS!!!! AFTER THE SHOW WAS OVER TOM DAVIS TRYED TO LEAVE THROUGH A BACK DOOR AND WAS STOPPED BY A SECURITY GAURD AND WAS TOLD HE HAD TO WAIT. IT WAS A SHAME.
SHAME ON THEM. THEY HAD NO RESPECT AT ALL FOR THE PEOPLE.

AS FOR THE FANS, I WAS SO SUPRISED TO NOT SEE ANYONE ELSE DRESSED LIKE THE BLUES BROTHERS BESIDES ME. ONE OTHER GUY HAD A HAT ON AND ONE COUPLE HAD SUNGLASSES ON.
I FELT LIKE I WAS REALLY THE ONLY TRUE FAN THERE. I MEAN PEOPLE WERE ALL SINGING ALONG THE WRONG WORDS, CALLING ZEE JAKE, I MEAN IT WAS OBVIOUS THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THE BLUES BROTHERS.
AS FOR THE HOUSE OF BLUES, AND I REALLY HOPE DAN AYKROYD EITHER READS THIS ONE DAY OR HEARS ABOUT IT FROM SOMEONE BUT THE PEOPLE THAT WORK THE SECURITY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THE PEOPLE, THE MUSIC, EVEN FAMOUS PEOPLE ARE TREATED BADLY. THERE WAS NO BLUESMOBILE OUTSIDE. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE AS QUOTED BY JIM BELUSHI DURRING THE CONCERT, "THE BEST ONE"
I DONT THINK SO

WELL JUST THOUGHT I WOULD LET YOU ALL KNOW A LITTLE OF WHAT HAPPEND . I WILL BE BACK LATER.

KRIS

A lot of their concerts are for 21 and above, especially in Casino's!
It's a real shame. Elwood and Zee only perform for publicity reasons now, and the Blues Brothers Band only performs when they are paid enough (I heard $11,000 plus the cost of accomodation etc, which is why they are only really booked for European tours and big jazz/blues festivals).

The last time the whole Blues Brothers Band and Elwood performed together was in NYC at a special event to thank Donna Dixon (Dan's wife) for her charity work. Both Rob Paparozzi AND Tommy McDonnell were there, as well as Paul Shaffer.

The good points were,

when I first arrived at the house of blues I was shocked to see soooo many people and for the show to be sold out. They said this was the only show in a very long time that this many people showed up to . that really got to me emotionally. It brought a tear to my eye at one point because the thought of even 25 years later, the blues brothers still can "Pack em in from miles around" I thought of Jake looking down at the whole thing.

I was hopeing to see Duck, Steve, Matt and the boys but we all know thats not possible. But I have to say the Sacred Hearts was a great band. Fat sound. alot of energy. the only thing is I thought the bass player was a lil too funky. He played with a
five string bass with a pick. I personally feel that Duck Dunn made a signature sounding bass for the blues brothers. Duck had that deep dirty sound. thats the only thing that was missing.

Before they came on stage Elwood was behind the curtain talking on the mic like an M.C. he even thanked the members of Illinois Law Enforcment community for coming. When they did come out, I was kind of shaking because I really couldnt belive who I was about to see. I love how Elwood introuduced them. After the sacred hearts played one song instrumental, Elwood said,

" .... And Nowwwwww.... The Genuine, Origanal, Non-Impersonating, real deal Blues Brothers."

I really like that he said that. It made you realize this is as real as it gets. I have waited all my life to see Elwood in person and I finally did. although it was impossible to actully meet him. but atleast I was actually at a blues brothers concert. I never thought I would be able to say that. Although I did get to hang out at the bar with Tom Davis and ran into a few band members on the ground floor before the show. It was also great to see Zee.
If you watch the special features on the aniversary dvd, a day on the blues brothers tour, which was only a few months back, you can see what Dan and Jim look like right now. They did exactly what they did on the dvd. Durring the song "ready for me" Zee jumped off the stage onto the dance floor and danced with all the people just like the dvd.
There were a few fortunate people that were able to get up on stage and dance with elwood and zee.
They were actually pulling the people onto the stage. I was supprised to see this since the security was so heavy. It prooved that Dan and Jim did not have the same outlook the security had. They wanted the people to have a goodtime. It was a late show it was supposed to start at 1130 it didnt start til 1230. Here are some of the songs I was able to hear.

Sweet Home Chicago
Rubber Biscut
Everything I need
Everybody Needs somebody
Soul Man
Born in Chicago

Zee talked about the old blues bar on Wells st. across the street from Second City in Chicago.
He said that in 1979, when Jake and Elwood would get done filming the movie they would go to the Blues Bar (they Owned it) to have jam sessions with all the cats. Everybody knew that the bar was the spot. I am going to check it out sometime, ill take some pictures if i can.

more to come later
Kris

as for my girlfreind,
Yes she did have to wait downstairs for me in the lobby. She was harassed by the staff and had a terrible time. This was a bad effect on her because she is a fan just like we all are.
Yes I know I am a jerk for leaving her down there like that and going in without her.
but I had no choice in the matter.
I am a true blue Blues Brothers fan. I dressed from head to foot in the uniform. I hand made my hat and my tie. I found the hat in a family dollar store for $5.00 . I then added the ribbon that wraps around the hat with the little bow tie thing. I had a black tie with white strips on it. this was the only tie i had that was skinny enough. so I dyed it black.

I had learned about the concert only 2 days before the show. I had no time to prepare, no time for anything. I knew if I walked away without seeing the show I would never forgive myself. I also felt like this was my one and only chance. The only reason the show happened was a benifit for New Orleans. All proceeds went to the New Orleans Fund. I knew it was now or never. So I just had to.
Any true fan would never walk away.
Although she was very mad and tramatized she understood how much this ment to me and waited for me. If it was any other band I would of left. but how could I under these circumstances?

Like I said , any true fan would of stayed.

So, did neither of you have a cell phone so she could call and have someone come pick her up?

I don't understand the age limit on the Blues Brothers concerts? They don't do anything dirty at all. The dirtiest thing I saw when I went in June was Zee lifted his shirt during "300 Pounds." Ew.

I think it was nice that the proceeds went to a New Orleans Fund.

Other than the security incident with your girlfriend, sounds like you had a great time.

BUT!
Be sure you do something super cool to make it up to her for benig patient and understanding, dude; and let her know that whatever you're planning is to make it up to her. That'll get you some kudos points!

thanks for the advice soloman,
I will surely use it. She had the cell phone in her purse but decided to wait anyway!! I guess im lucky to have a girl like her.
Yeah Zee did the same thing with the shirt.
and so did a guy that was way over 300 pounds.
But what I do not understand is it was an 18 and over show, and they gave us all that trouble. I mean I know my girl looks a lot older than 18.
But, I will make it up to her .

Thanks
Kris

I don't know much about the law in the USA, but is there anything 18 year olds can do that 17 year olds can't?

I always thought gambling and alcohol were only for 21+, and I can't think of any other age limits that there could be.

as far as i know you are considered an legal adult here in illinois , you can get married/divorced, vote , run for local office , change your name , join the military ,and lots of others except buy hooch and gamble, buy a gun, not sure of the gamble/gun thing think (?) you have to be 21 also

you used to be able to buy beer /wine at 19 but they changed that real quick when we ll were getting to drunk a lot . that was in the late 70's early 80's and id's were real easy to fake . there were still some out there who had one with no picture on them

well i guess the way it went down was
the show was 18 and over but Everyone had to show I D. You had to prove you were at least 18 years old to enter. If you are over 21, they give you a wrist band to drink. Under 21, no wrist band.
the reason I say she looks a lot older than 18 because we didnt even want the wrist bands.

However last week, I took my girl to the DMV and got her a brand new ID. So we are waiting for another concert to come up at the house of blues so she can go stick her ID in all those guys faces who made our dream into a nightmare. I cant wait to see their faces when the see that she is actully 22 years old. I know it wont make a differnce or change anything but she's gonna do it anyway!

yah, the HOB security is a bitch. I went to see BB King down here at the atlantic City HoB and the guards were giving me gf trouble for noth having her ID. It was a 16+ show and they wudnt let her in until i had to whip out ym ticket and say "Look buddy, its 16 and over. She sure as hell looks over 16 (shes 17 BTW) and she drives, meaing shes over 16. We're here tonight to see BB King as my graduation gift and she just lost her ID" SO after 2 guards checked it out, they let me, her, and my buddy in. Ratbastiches....

when danny and jim came down here in the summer when the HoB Atlantic City opened, i couldnt go becuase it was a 21+ show. Yah, theres booze in the venua but come on, theres nothign dirty in their show and they give you the wristband if ure drinking anyway
