Default 440 anyone? (for sale)

hey guys, my buddy has quite the little jewle someone might want. Its a 440 out of a 75 monaco police car. The date on the block is 74, but was in a 75. Driver side engine "ear mount" needs to be welded (shouldnt be to hard to weld) and engine is stuck. Needs a rebuild.... but is correct cop engine and is complete minus carb, and would make any monaco a true bluesmobile. anyome interested? will get pics when i see him next..

would use it for mine, but already got some goodys for the small block, and ive already got a big block car.

could get it from him for $200

Nice! It's got a cop motor, a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant.

I just noticed another 440 over at the derby site. Not a cop motor.

The 74 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham I picked up recently has a 440 in it (not a police issue engine) - just hoping to eventually transplant into a Monaco with a good body. Good to know they are still out there.

Don't forget if you're buying one to rebuild that the later blocks can be thin-wall castings that will only go about .020 overbore. '72 and earlier blocks are the preferred ones b/c they have the good cranks and thicker cylinder walls. Of course, if you're buying one that is running with no plans on a rebuild then the later ones will work just fine.

Getting a little pricier but it would sure go good with that pin! It's in Tulsa for $1,950.

Sweet
Even though there' some parts missing on it. (water pump i.e.)

Question to me is, why did he pull it and if it's still nice, why didn't he restore it, as it is a quite rare engine...

Hey Zac! Did your bud ever sell that cop motor? That would be a pretty sweet replacement for a civilian 360.
I guess I'm guilty of threadjacking here, hahaa. Well, the Bluesmobile forums needed a '440 for sale' thread and here be it. There seems to be some fair prices on 440's floating around. Granted, they're not all complete ... some good comparisons though.

0 bids.

Is anyone actively searching for a 440/727? I'd suggest to keep checking craigslist. There's always some on there.

Quote:
It is a complete minus carb, Dodge 440 Motor. The previous owner said it was a fresh rebuild. I pulled the heads and everything looks good, it appears to be a good running motor. It has been freshly painted Big Block Orange. It also comes with a matching 727 Big Block Automatic Transmission, Torque Converter, and the engine stand it sits on.The engine stand rotates and rolls, and is very heavy duty. 1000$ for everything, come and take it away.
Rebuilt Dodge 440 Big Block, Engine Stand, and 727

This one is $100 cheaper at $900 obo.

Quote:
I took this 440/727 out of a 77 dodge. I started it up on old gas and it ran strong and surprisingly it idled smooth with nasty gas. There was no smoke at start up and no leaks. It never smoked or smelled, just ran strong. I put the tranny into ALL gears and drove it around the owners field. All the gears are solid, no slipping, no leaks.

Yes there deffinetly is a bunch you can find online. Most of them for a pretty good price (atleast around here). Ive seen a couple complete ones for $400, they look good to, throw a gasket set at em, some new fluid, and your good to go..

If you actually test them, you'll find that they can be punched out just as far as the old ones and they are a better quality cast. Weigh them and see which one actually weighs more!

my General Lee has a 74 440 sitting in it at the moment. It needs a rebuild. I have a 383 Magnum for the Lee. I am gonna keep the 440 for the Monaco if the 400 ever takes a crap. I hope to give it a tune up in a few weeks and get some more updates and maybe another video.

a problem with these motors not selling is most are pick up only. kinda pricey to ship a big block and tranny
