okay, ive wanted to show some pictures of my car on here for a long time, and since Steam showed me how to post pictures, and since i just got some pictures that were taken this summer, i figured what better time then now?!
these were taken, like i said, this past summer outside of a blues club i play at in the northside suburbs of Chicago. i happened to have my bluesymobile with me the same night as a professional photographer came to hang out and snap some pics of the jammers. so without further adieu...i give you my 1971 Oldsmobile 98, better known as Lyle. and here's a fun little game...i hope it wont be too challenging, as i think there is at least one major clue which will give it away, lol, lets see if you can guess which one in the pics is me! -Bob |

Well, I will guess the one on the left, since he's wearing BB style shades.
Although I personally think the one on the right has more of an Elwood look, and is on the driver's side. Ok. On second thought, I have no idea. |

you would be correct by guessing the one on the left. i didnt think it would be that much of a challenge...lol.
and thats right Steam...i forgot about the jam videos, which would make me pretty unmistakable. Glad you like the ol' boy...because i sure do. |

thanks chitown, i know youre an olds fan...what was your delta, a 78? im very much in love with my Olds. he's like the Trigger to my Roy Rogers, you know? ive been raised in a GM family. rarely was there a ford...and never a chrysler (unless it was a vintage one), parked in our driveway. so i do have quite a preference towards GM makes. and since my Dad bought my olds before i even had my learners permit with plans to give it to me when i turned 16 all along, it holds a very special place in my heart.
but the olds it self really is a fantastic, rock solid car. the 1971 98's had great styling, and you cant beat the olds 455 with the rochester 4 barrel carb, the turbo 400 transmission, and the 12 bolt rear end...indestructable! but whats really nice too about my 98's is that they werent just a lower priced Cadillac. the olds engineers did their own thing when the built this car. my dad has a 1976 Caddy, which shares the same basic frame as my olds...but the differences end there. the olds doesnt have the luxo barge float like the caddy...it actually handles very well for a 5000 pound car! it is very smooth, taught, and responsive, where the caddy is much more dampened and soft. iim not knocking the caddy, or the classic caddy ride, because i love it too, but the olds is just....different. i wont say its better, because its a matter of preference, but its just different. ok...i will stop ranting about Lyle now. i have to get a girl friend or something! lol. -Bob |

Very close, My interest w/ Olds started from the time I was little. My dad had bought a brand new '69 or '70 Vista Cruiser. From there Ive been around quite a few early '70's Olds. Dad became a Ford guy when he statred w/ a chevy van went to a Dodge and it rusted out bigtime on him. So since '78 He was driving Ford Vans for his work.
Dad let the Sis' have the Cruiser in the late '70's. That car was great going to the campgrounds all those years in Wisconsin. Lay down look out the back moon roof and watch the stars. We had one car besides that around 81 or 81 Dad got his step Dad's '77 Caddy. Very beautiful Metallic Bronxe I guess, My sister has it now.Never broke a 100,000 miles to my knowledge. You know we went to the auto show around 86 or 88 Dad and I w/ out a word walked around the new caddy and were amazed, they brought that body right back, pretty cool. Later, when I was 19 a had a '81 Olds Cutlas nothing fancy but that car ran. And Yes then there was a '78 Delta, that ran way better, she liked drinkin gas though...must have been that Rocket callin' WWWRRRRAAAAAAHHHH!!!! My '79 4 dr Ford LTD was my favorite, Always had to work that peddle for speed, so she was slow but steady drove her for 7 yrs. Great car. Wish I had my property before I demo raced her because she could have been retired in my barn, Damn I miss that car. Still Drivin' Dad's last van 2000 E-150, That truck has been good to me I gotta say goin way the hell up north all year (Bigtime knock on wood!) But now Ive been sold on the P-71's, That '99 I got is so cool on the highway, does like 23mpg or so doing 70 all the way (well mostly, U.P. Speed is 55) to the U.P. 241,000 on her now, So I'm taking her up and retiring her real soon, maybe good car for up north when I need it. When I get some more dough I'll get the '01 Interceptor goin for work and U.P. Got her cheap and lot less miles, so we'll see, because she's a bit used up, not as nice as the '99. What's been nice too is the '94 Dodge Ram I bought off a bud for cheap, lift kit, big tires, well after I got the property she went up north and got a plow, so now she pretty much stays around the house. Sorry if I come off bragging but I got alot of vehicles now man! Ha! It's getting real hard to register them all. It's realy not bragging when you dont spend huge bucks for the stuff. So that's realy how Ive been able to do it. So that will do it I guess for my life around vehicles, well the cool stuff anyway.... jr |

you dont gotta worry about braggin John, i love listening/reading about all that stuff. good stories man. thanks for filling us all in!
id love to have a P-71. they are an absolute workhorse, and a solid good performing American car. i still prefer the 94-96 chevy caprices, but nice ones of those are hard to come by. i know how it is to keep a stable of cars like that registered. at one time my dad and i had a total of 9 cars! we've thinned the herd, sadly, but i know how hard it can be to keep them all registered. -Bob |

My first car was a 1971 Chevy Impala 4 door. It was a hand me down from my sister. I got it in 1978 with 150k. I drove this car from 1978 to 1980 when I bought my first new car a 1980 Pontiac Sunbird. Of course this car had the 231 Cubic inch Buick V-6. From then on and 40 cars later all and mostly GM's. A couple of Fords and Toyota's and Volov's. Love car's they are in my blood. The stable today is.

hey Beef, that 72 hearse is a beauty! and i love your 76, its a very sharp car.
Beef, you wouldnt happen to have a set of fender skirts off of a 71 or 72 98 that you'd be willing to part with, would you? my olds had a blow out on the right rear tire this past summer and it twisted up my fender skirt on that side like a pretzel, and ive been looking for a replacement ever since. if you have any, and you'd be willing to part with them, please let me know! thanks! -Bob |

I don't have any spares for my '72. I need a good left front fender (no rust) with cornering lamp preferably for mine. Try that demo derby website's want ads. I bet someone ^@%^@#$ over there is wrecking one sooner or later.
