The '58 reference is from the Miami Mitch novel (got that sitting here on my desk at work), don't recall if they might have mentioned something different in BB Private, have to check on that sometime!

While we're in the 50's, here's a beauty ...

1959 Galaxie

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1959-...em150229425145

No clone here. Has the factory 352 V8. Also comes with a Buy It Now price of $9,500. Like Vinnie says ... just looking at the menu!

Whoa... the ultimate car...

Almost too much beautiful to be transformed into a Bluesmobile, i.e. the removal of all police equipment, and the "dirtying" of the car itself.

New tires, interior is lighter than in the original Bluesmobile (I guess), clean trunk, clean engine, low mileage... the dream of a car. Thanks Steam for that nice pick.

However, the ad mentions that the car is for show only, not a daily driver. Does that mean that the car is too much "fragile" or is it only because of the police equipment ?

Note to European fans : considering the exchange rate, honestly, that ain't much. USD 2,550.00 = about EUR 1,700.00. Let's take the final price that Rusty quotes : USD 5,800.00 = about EUR 3,900.00.

Find a decent used car for that price in Europe and call me. I've got some nice beach front property in Tennesse in exchange ! LOL (Steam will recognize the quote here.)

The same car here in Europe would have been sold at least for eight to ten times that price, if not more ! I'm even sure that the shipping to Europe + control & registration fees and expenses here would cost more than the car.

Yeah, I just checked that, better hurry up, man !

I read in the bidding history that the car had been listed on eBay for a starting bidding price of... USD 495.00 ! A pittance...

A tad early for calculations, there's still 9 days to go and it's already at $7,000. Wouldn't surprise me to see her go for $20,000. Based on the fact it's the real deal, an actual CHP, not a clone.

In January a 1975 Coronet CHP clone sold for $7,100.

Also in January, an actual Minnesota 1978 Fury with a 440 and original paint/decals sold for $17,600.

There's cops willing to mortgage their houses for this Monaco.

They would also, without hesitation, shoot anyone who would even think about making it into a Bluesmobile. LOL!

My prediction is $21,500.

Luckily, there will always be an affordable Dodge cop car to make into your very own Bluesmobile tribute.

1988 Diplomat

I understand that the reserve on that CHP Monaco is over $40,000. If it doesn't sell on Ebay, it will be brought to the Barrett auction.

I agree with you, that car is too much beautiful to be turned into a beautiful Bluesmobile, i.e. a dirty car with less equipment. Would be a shame. But that would sort out the circulation regulations about driving a police car.

Yes, I know Dave Weaver. Everywhere we go I get mistaken for him. And I think the $50,000 he told you he has into his car is an UNDERSTATEMENT! It was pretty rough when he got it though. It was police package fire chief's car from California with no engine.

Mistaken identity? arent you a bit tall for Dave though? or is it more because of the bluesmobile car that people automatically assume your him?

Thanks for the pics, ChiTown! Dave Weaver sounds like an interesting guy. Maybe even a tad eccentric. Which is a good thing. I like to listen to my scanner as well, but Dave kinda takes it up a notch. Here's a great article from around 2 years ago.

http://www.chicagojournal.com/main.a...28&TM=52596.23

I can't recall ever seeing so many Diplomat's. In the last 8 days we've seen ...

Sold ...

... $510

Sold ...

... $910

High bid $1,500 ...

... auction still running

Then Rusty brings his '88 to the thread.

$1,600 ...

... you come get it

That's a great looking cop car, Rusty. It made me realize how rare it is to see a cop car for sale on eBay with the cage still in place. I think of all the cop cars we've seen here this year, I can only remember one other that still had its cage. Plus, eBay would make you disconnect the wig wags and I think the light bar too. It makes your car more appealing to anyone here who wants to buy a Dodge cop car.

Now here's Diplomat #5 in the last eight days.

1989 Diplomat

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989-...em230237611577

Sounds like he's selling it for parts. Geez, it ain't a bad lookin' parts car.

Hey Steam, looks like you may be right after all. The bid started at $495, now it's at $13,995.

A bit of maths here : in 3 days the price increased of $13,500.
Average increase per day = $13,500 / 3 = $4,500 (average per day)

If we imagine a progression following these lines, i.e. $4,500 x 6 remaining days (rounding the time left), we should expect an increase of $27,000, arriving at a final price of $13,500 + $27,000 = $40,500 !!!

Okay, this is according to a regular, predictable progression (a linear regression). But of course, bidders can be unpredictable in their actions... that's just an average after all.

Oh nevermind, 440RULEZ, I have no merit, I'm assisted (and sometimes hassled) by the Mad Quoting Genius. Nothing goes by him, you know.

She hasn't moved a nickel. I can imagine a little more bidding on the last day, the last hour of that auction should be interesting.

Here's the real fire chiefs car.

1975 Royal Monaco

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1975-...em150232092740

Pretty nice. 400 4-bbl. I would think this auction is going to be interesting to watch as well.

I just noticed the first fire chief clone ends in 6 hours. Current bid $3,075 ...

* When I mentioned, "Here's the real fire chiefs car" I meant between the two '75's that are for sale on eBay. I think we all know that Dave Weaver's '74 CFD is among the finest cars on the planet. *

That seems like a good deal on that Caddy ambulance.

And the old '73 Fury ...

Sold ...

... $555

We've seen this car before, post #97. It sold for $650 and became a stunt-car in the remake of Vanishing Point.

1974 Satellite - clone

It has a cracked windshield, and I would imagine some other problems as they drove the crap out of it during filming.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1974-...em200213668094

I just noticed this car this morning, and now the auction is over!? Ended the listing early. Maybe it'll be back. It would make a fine Bluesmobile tribute.

Well, there's been one bid this week on the Monaco ...
