Thanks for the defs. That was really helpful. On topic: I have a GREAT picture with Jake & Elwood with cigars in their mouths... along with 3 guys I don't really know. I'll post it if I can get it up on here... I have a lot of stuff that's not on the computer. x_x; |

Found it. xD Don't know if it counts, since it's not like, lit or anything. But still. <3
It's at an angle. I turned it so that I'd get the other guys outta the picture. So if you've seen this before, that's what's wrong with it. Dan looks good when he smoke. Heheh. But still, I don't like how he's rationing his life. Oh well. It's his life to do with what he pleases. But I'd like him to live at least until I have a car and can drive cross the states to go see him. |

Apparently they did.
This came straight out of the horse's mouth. "Belushi" by Judith Belushi Pisano, Tanner Colby, and Dan Aykroyd (who wrote the forward but I think he also hogged a lot of interview space!). -cuddles book- |

Ok. Ok. I came real late to this party, as usual.
Does that mean no one's left, and I just get to clean up all the broken beer bottles, like that Chick at Country Bob's? I have a related question, and one that some people pointed to here. But I couldn't find a separate thread elsewhere. So here goes. Really, how violent are the boys? I mean, I know that they wreck havoc. But I can't remember anyone punching one another. I don't remember violence in the sense that we see it today in movies. Jake is arrested for armed robbery, right? But was the gun even loaded? Just questions, as I have not read the novel, and am still working my way through the maze of canon... |

Certainly in the two movies themselves the violence committed by the Blues Brothers is limited to the property damage they cause with the car. Elwood is a preternaturally gifted driver and is able to drive through the Dixie Square Mall without hitting anyone. The repeated line "They broke my watch!" underscores the fact that, miraculously, none of the police officers or others involved in the car pileups is hurt. In fact, I may be mistaken, but I don't know of any canonical evidence for Jake or Elwood ever hurting anyone. That's one of the major reasons why they're such loveable anti-heroes. |

Great points, Gildir. Exactly how I feel.
I have mentioned this before, but I think the Blues Brothers are really a modern version of "The Trickster" - found in mythology and folklore from all over the world. I think that needs its own thread, for academic geeks and culture vultures... Now, back to Elwood and his smokes... |

I agree with you Gildir, really good perspective. Though the brothers look impressive, they wouldna hurt a fly.
Another question : how the police could have considered them "dangerous" (Use of unecessary violence in the apprehension of the Blues brothers has been approved) while Jake and Elwood didn't even have a gun ? In fact the real violent folks in the movies are the same one that run after them, i.e. the Nazis and Camille. The brothers even get almost killed, but they're the ones considered as dangerous ! This is central to the subversive side of the movie : the police is always hitting on the small guy.

You are very very right, Vinnie. There is some major subtext going on here, about race, urban poverty, exploitation, power relations, the working class...
But I think that deserves another thread.... I mean, not everyone wants to hear my egghead mumbo jumbo... |

That's a cut scene from the script. You can read the whole thing online (Actually I'm thinking I read it somewhere on this site a while back.) Last edited by Chic_Lady; 18th Jan 2008 at 01:17 PM. Reason: spelling |

A whale omelette ? Mmmm... I'm sure that's tasty with some sautéed jellyfish and vinaigrette... I'd like it with some special mushrooms too ! LOL
Alright, Jo, seriously, I always thought the whole movie was subversive. See the scene at the restaurant, the most subversive scene in the movie in my humble opinion. Full class divide showing. You're right, that subject deserves a whole thread of its own.
