My main problems with Blues Brothers 2000 is that it seems more like a kids movie.
Elwood is no way as cool, I mean the bit where he says to Cab "I think you need a hug"???? C'mon in the first one he would never say that...also his voice is weird!
N I dont know who came up with the idea of Buster Blues but he ie well annoying and very unnecessary!

Still the music is awseome and it has some of my fav songs-"6345789", "Cheaper to Keep Her", "Turn on your Love Light" yadda yadda

as i say i think the film was very much made with a new audience in mind i.e. kids & teens.. adding Buster & making the film a bit less "late night viewing" than the original certainly helped bring the film to a new generation, so at least our kids would "get it" now.

Yeah but you dont want the Blues Brothers being a kids movie, I like the seedy, dirty feel it has lol
I get what your saying though, the whole point of the BB is to introduce poeople to the blues but Buster?? He's realli irritating! If he went into my bag and took out my harmonica I'd give him a back-hander

What can I say I'm a stone critic...saying that though Dan Aykroyd can still do no wrong in my eyes! (Apart from getting dolled up in S&M gear for Exit to Eden...cant bring myself to watch that)

I have mixed feelings about Blues Brothers 2000.... everytime I watch it I just really wish that Jim Belushi had have been able to have been involved. It was great seeing Dan Aykroyd again in his greatest role, although he seemed a bit different as Elwood! A little bit like he'd forgotten how to play the role (although in fairness, he had to be more of a talkative role this time around, to compensate for the loss of Jake).
I really liked John Goodman as Mighty Mack (Looking For A Fox is my favourite song in the film), but I could have done without Buster totally (although some of his dance moves made me laugh!).. along with the Zombie/voodoo stuff as well. BUT.... what I really loved about the movie was the music! There are so many great songs on the soundtrack... it's just that the film really isn't what it could have, or should have been :/

The reason it didnt work is coz Elwood had to talk too much.....n Dan Aykroyd did it in this weird accent
Plus Buster......I just hate him so much...n I've never hated a 10year old but he deservers it...good dancer, still does.nt excuse him though

Blues Brothers 2000 is a typical sequel to a classic.
It doesn't really meet the expectations of the original.
Even throwing everything but the kitchen sink at it, didn't make it gel.
The on-screen partnership of Dan Akroyd & John Goodman just didn't happen.
Songs & music were great but the plot was lacking!
...and was Buster all about!!!
Great car wreck scene though.

The movie takes place 18 years later than the first and Elwood has become mellower and buries himself in all manners of study.

Learning of the death of his brother then of Curtis crushes him and makes him a very sullen man.
A man without a country, a cry in the wilderness...

Buster, who he did not care for earlier, now becomes a representative of a new generation of Blues Aficionados.

Elwood realizes that Buster symbolizes his own past. Elwood would have been lost without Curtis as a mentor.

(Hey, what's not to say that Buster himself is not Jake incarnate?!?!)

Again, If we can see BB2K as a Tribute Film as opposed to a sequel, then I think we all can appreciate it more!

Hi Blueblood,
Watched the film again.....
It definitely tries to pick up on the previous storyline. Obviously not a tribute, but a sequel.
However, looking at it purely in it's own right, as a tribute, the original magic is still lacking.
Great music though.

I saw the Blues Brothers 2000 after years of meaning to, earlier this week. I went into it with the lowest of expectations after hearing about it from others.

I was actually pleasantly surprised. Of course, there was no chance it was ever going to be half as good as the first one, at least as a film. This was done just for the music, and in that respect, it's great. John Goodman and Joe Morton were pretty good - they were never going to replace Jake, but they did their best. It was good to see the band back together again. The only thing that really bugged me was Buster, and the ending. I don't mean the concert, the concert is great, just the cheap ending that gets you all revved up for a great car chase.

So yeah, if you watch it as it's own separate thing, it isn't anywhere near as bad as I was expecting.

Also, this is my first post, but this is a new account. I had one years ago with a different email address and I've forgotten my details. I can remember I didn't like the username I chose anyway.

Eighteen years in the pen, isolated, reading books and hanging with guys who all aren't from shih-KAH-goe will transform anyone's accent.
My ex girlfriend was from Tennessee and just being here two years took the edge off her accent.

Of course her flip flops gave her away...

And what about Cab, he was as police officer good, but as a Blues
Brother, NO WAY

You can call this movie what you want,
but I call it crap producted with the Kid(Buster)

BB2K doesn't have a 'Chicago' feel like the first one.You have a few gratuitous skyline shots, but that's it I think. We can thank the Daley Admini$tration for cha$ing film companie$ out of the city.Too expensive to film there in a lot of cases.
I like the movie, but it just doesn't have the same magic for me as the first did.
The Crown Vic will never be half as much Bluesmobile as the Monaco.
